Founded in 1969 as "Cuggi" in Toorak, Melbourne, Australia, the label was renamed in 1987 to "Coogi" to sound more like an indigenous Australian name. Known for its iconic colourful knitwear, Coogi fashion has often been referenced in popular culture, including The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1996 rap song Hypnotize: "Every cutie wit' a booty bought a Coogi."
